Download and read online Re imagining African Christologies in PDF and EPUB "Who do you say that I am" (Mark 8:29) is the question of Christology. By asking this question, Jesus invites his followers to interpret him from within their own contexts-history, experience, and social location. Therefore, all responses to Jesus's invitation are contextual. But for too long, many theologians particularly in the West have continued to see Christology as a universal endeavor that is devoid of any contextual influences. This understanding of Christology undermines Jesus's expectations from us to imagine and appropriate him from within our own contexts. In Re-imagining African Christologies, Victor I. Ezigbo presents a constructive exposition of the unique ways that many African theologians and lay Christians from various church denominations have interpreted and appropriated Jesus Christ in their own contexts. He also articulates the constructive contributions that these African Christologies can make to the development of Christological discourse in non-African Christian communities.

Download and read online Bringing Home the Dharma in PDF and EPUB Many people seeking inner peace and self-cultivation look to the East for inspiration and guidance. Author Jack Kornfield himself pursued rigorous training in traditional Buddhist monasteries in Southeast Asia. Here he shares the fruits of four decades of study and practice in the East and the West, highlighting one essential insight: true wisdom is found nowhere else than right here in this very moment, as we go about our daily lives. We need not travel to an ashram or a meditation retreat--our households, relationships, and work lives give us profound opportunities to awaken our buddha nature, our natural wisdom and loving-kindness. In this book, Kornfield shares this and other key lessons he has learned studying with some of the most revered Buddhist masters of the twentieth century. Topics include: realizing our full potential, conscious parenting, common obstacles to awakening, spirituality and sexuality, enlightened political action, and much more. Previously in hardback.

Download and read online The Agent in the Margin in PDF and EPUB The Agent in the Margin: Nayantara Sahgal’s Gandhian Fiction is a comprehensive study of the literary works of Nayantara Sahgal, daughter of Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit—the first woman president of the United Nations General Assembly—and niece of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister. Clara A.B. Joseph introduces Mahatma Gandhi’s political and philosophical to literary analysis and utilizes non-structuralist aspects of Louis Althusser’s theories of ideology to trace how characters marginalized by gender, class, race, and language in Sahgal’s work assume agency, challenging poststructuralist theories of cultural and ideological determinism. She considers how gender complicates autobiography and how the roles of daughter, virgin, wife, widow, and alien serve (often ironically) to highlight human dignity.
